To the Parents and/or Guardians of Incoming 4 year-old preschool students,

We continually monitor housing growth in our district in order to estimate the numbers of new children at DCG. This year we are experiencing both single family home and apartment growth, a factor that our district has not experienced in the past years.

In order to prepare for the continual growth that the Dallas Center-Grimes Community School District is facing in the upcoming school year our preschool program will be located at South Prairie Elementary, Brighter Beginnings, and North Ridge Elementary. North Ridge is located north on James Street on the edge of Grimes. North Ridge has classrooms that were designed for younger children. The pre-school students will be in their own wing of the building and playground equipment will be added to support the needs of the younger students.

This shift is allowing us to maintain the high quality of our current preschool program. This will also alleviate some of the heavy traffic at South Prairie Elementary. Our existing shuttle service between North Ridge and South Prairie will transport siblings of preschool students to either building. We are asking for family’s preference of morning vs. afternoon and building preference. Please fill out the below portion and return it to South Prairie by May 22nd. We will do our best to honor your request. Your child’s classroom placement will be noted on your registration papers that will be mailed to you in mid July.

Senior Awards Night: Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:30 pm in the High School Auditorium. All awards and scholarships, with the exception of the Valedictorian and Salutatorian awards, will be given at this ceremony. Attendance is important. If you have applied for a scholarship through the school, please make plans to attend.

Baccalaureate: Tuesday, May 22nd at 7:45 pm in the High School Auditorium (approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of senior awards). This is an optional ceremony, sponsored by the Dallas Center and Grimes Ministerial associations, which honors the seniors with a worship service. This service is planned & led by members of the senior class.

Senior Breakfast: Friday, May 25th at 8:00 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 8600 Northpark Drive, Johnston. This will be a full breakfast buffet. Our faculty speaker will be Mr. Dave Hekter. The cost is $10.00 and tickets may be purchased in the office beginning Tuesday, May 1st. The last day to buy a ticket will be Friday, May 11th. Graduation Practice will follow at the high school at 10:00 a.m.

Graduation Practice: Friday, May 25th at 10:00 am. This is required to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Graduation Expectations: Students are expected to dress nicely for graduation. Girls are expected to wear a dress, skirt or nice pants with dress shoes or dressy sandals. Guys are expected to wear a collared shirt, preferably with a tie, nice pants, and dress shoes. Students are expected to behave in such a manner to represent Dallas Center-Grimes and their families with pride.

Graduation Parking: Friday, May 25th - Parking is limited. Please help by carpooling. Thanks for all your help!!
Graduation Day: Friday, May 25th, 2011
Arrive in Band room by 5:45 pm
Pictures at 6:10 pm. Group pictures for graduation will be taken in the auditorium at 6:10 pm sharp. If you want to be a part of the group picture, you must be there on time.
Parents may take a group picture in the auditorium at 6:45.
Graduation at 7:00 pm. Graduates are not limited to the number of persons that may attend the graduation ceremony.

Jolesch Photography will be taking pictures of all graduates Please see the enclosed flier.

Time Capsule Productions will also be filming.

Campus Mobile Portal App Announced

Update:

The Campus Mobile Portal App for Android has been released to both Google Play (formerly the Android Market) as well as to the Amazon Appstore as a free download for parents and students to use with Android devices on operating systems 2.2 or higher.

Features include:

Daily Planner allows students to know exactly when and where they need to be and to see the assignments coming up in each of their classes.
Assignments provides detailed information about what students are, were, or will be expected to do in each class.
Attendance provides both summary and detail information about absences and tardies.
Grades provides immediate access to the important metrics of success and allows parents and students to “drill down” to the assignments that make up a particular grade.
Schedule gives students the ability to check their schedule anywhere, at any time.
Notifications allow parent and student subscribers to receive notifications regarding changes to assignments, grades and attendance changes according to their individual notification preferences.

Infinite Campus has introduced their Infinite Campus Mobile Portal app. The new Campus Mobile Portal is available for free from the App Store.

Once the app has been installed on an Apple® iOS device (iPod Touch®, iPhone®, iPad®), parents and students can access grades, attendance and schedule information virtually anywhere.
