Dallas Center - Grimes Community School District

Attention to those students who have submitted NHS Information Sheets to be considered for membership in NHS:The original schedule has been extended due to several issues. At this point, the Faculty Council will be able to meet sometime before March 12th. Letters to all students and parents who sent information forms will be mailed on or about March 19. Students who are accepted, and current NHS students, will be required to attend the Induction Ceremony that is scheduled for Tuesday, March 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.

March 9th was a foggy afternoon and evening for many, but it was a rewarding day for many people as they either helped by volunteering or donated blood to the Blood Center of Iowa. A total of 109 people registered to give, with 21 first time donors! There were a total of 82 whole blood procedures and eight double red cell procedures, for a total of 98 points.

Good job NHS, DC-G students, and patrons! And thank you to all who took the time to help. The Blood Center staff always tells me how happy they are to do our drive because we keep them busy and all of the people who donate are nice ... and we have good kids! (Well, they didn't have to tell Mrs. Barker that, because she already knows that all DC-G students rock!)

Noodles for Nick is a fundraiser that will be hosted by the Dallas Center-Grimes graduating class of 2010. It will be held on Sunday, April 11th, 2010 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Dallas Center-Grimes High School. All of the proceeds will go to the family of Nick DeBoer to help pay for medical bills and all other expenses brought on by this illness. Students from Mr. Chadwick's 3D Modeling class are helping build up Iowa in the 3D world of GoogleEarth, starting with one of their two hometowns. So far, the class has constructed 10 buildings in Grimes that have been approved and uploaded into Google's 3D Warehouse and are displayed on GoogleEarth. The High School (above) is the most recent addition that was approved on 2/26; Madole and Steier were the students assigned to the High School project.

For the 2009-2010 school year, the class has set the goal of completing all the school buildings in the Dallas Center-Grimes School District as well as all the buildings along 1st Street in Grimes. During the 2010-2011 school year, the 3D Modeling class will be focusing on buildings in Dallas Center.

As of today, February 18th, we have missed nine days of school due to weather.  The following is our make-up plan and schedule:

3 - Days built into original calendar
1 - Day made up February 19th (Professional development day to be made up June 4th)
1 - Day made up March 12th (This was originally a comp day for Parent – Teacher conferences)
1 - Day made up Thursday, May 27th
1 - Day made up Friday, May 28th
1 - Day made up Tuesday, June 1st
1 - Day made up Wednesday, June 2nd (Students last day)
9 - Days made up!
